The Model
Launched in 2010, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG marked a defining moment for AMG as a standalone performance division. It was the first car developed entirely in-house by AMG and the spiritual successor to the legendary 300 SL, reintroducing the iconic gullwing door configuration to a modern audience.
At its heart sits the naturally aspirated 6.2 litre M159 V8, a development of AMG’s celebrated M156 engine extensively reworked for the SLS. Producing 571 bhp and paired with a rear mounted seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, the SLS employed a front mid-engined layout with a transaxle configuration for optimal weight distribution. Performance remains hugely impressive, with 0-62 mph achieved in 3.8 seconds and a limited top speed of 197 mph.
The SLS AMG Roadster followed in 2011, retaining the same mechanical specification as the Coupe while replacing the gullwing doors with conventional items and introducing a fabric roof that could be operated in under 11 seconds at speeds of up to 31 mph. Despite the structural changes required to accommodate the open top configuration, the Roadster’s aluminium spaceframe was engineered to maintain rigidity without significant weight penalty, resulting in a car that delivered the same performance as the Coupe with the added theatre of open air driving.
Beyond performance figures, the SLS AMG represents one of the last naturally aspirated, large capacity AMG engines before the marque transitioned to turbocharged powertrains. Its combination of mechanical theatre, long bonnet proportions and gullwing doors gives it a presence few modern cars can replicate.

Delivered new on the 31st of May 2012 via Mercedes-Benz of Cheltenham & Gloucester, this SLS AMG Roadster was specified in 048 designo Mystic White 2 with single tone designo Exclusive leather in Black. The factory specification was comprehensive, including AMG ceramic high performance composite brakes, Bang and Olufsen BeoSound AMG sound system, AMG Ride Control sports suspension, AMG carbon fibre engine cover, AMG trim painted black with high gloss finish, 19 and 20 inch AMG 5-twin-spoke alloy wheels, Blind Spot Assist, AMG Performance steering wheel in nappa leather and Alcantara, and AMG Performance Media.
During its life, the car has been sympathetically enhanced with a number of Brabus components. These include Brabus lowering sports suspension, Brabus 20-inch forged monoblock alloy wheels, a sports exhaust system, Brabus floor mats and door lock pins, Brabus front and rear exterior badging, and a Brabus pedal set. Apple CarPlay integration has also been added.
The service history is exemplary, with 12 recorded services documented from first delivery to the present day. Maintenance was carried out by Mercedes-Benz main dealers throughout the majority of the car’s life.
Showing 12,926 miles today, the car is accompanied by two keys, a C-tek charger, a comprehensive folio of documentation, fitted tools, and the original Mercedes-Benz medical kit.
